The stone Tikhvin church with a single altar was built between 1646 and 1685. Since its founding, it housed the Tikhvin icon of the Mother of God, after which it was named, but this was officially recognized only in 1844.

Funds collected from pilgrims allowed for the expansion and reconstruction of the church in 1898-1900, resulting in its architectural style acquiring features and decorations characteristic of the late 19th century.

By the mid-19th century, the church was located within the Tatar settlement, and its congregation was small.

The Tikhvin church remained active until October 8, 1938.

Later, the church was desecrated and sank into the ground by a meter due to the multilayered asphalt covering around it.

In 1996, efforts by the faithful began the revival of the Tikhvin church.

In 1997, the church was returned to the Kazan diocese and handed over to the Kriashen community.

Today, the Tikhvin church serves as the center for all Kriashen parishes in Tatarstan.

A Sunday school, a folk choir, and work on translating the books of the Holy Scriptures into the Kriashen language operate at the church.

In 2015, a museum of the history and culture of the Kriashen opened at the church.

Services at the church are mainly conducted in the Church-Kriashen language.
