The Saint Alexandra Church in Bad Ems was built under the patronage of Alexander II in memory of his mother, Empress Alexandra Feodorovna, who was Princess Friederike Louise Charlotte Wilhelmine of Prussia. It was she, as the wife of Nicholas I, who first proposed to build the church in the resort town of Bad Ems in 1858. However, after her death in 1860, construction was postponed for 17 years. The five-domed church in the Russian-Byzantine style was erected according to the design of architect Goldmann in 1876. The artist Timofey Neff created the image for the baroque iconostasis, and Vasily Vereshchagin gifted the church the icon "Resurrection of Christ," which was placed in the altar. In the 20th century, the church was periodically closed, but it has been active again since 1991.

The church has five domes and is built of stone in the Russian-Byzantine style. The facades are divided into two tiers by a profiled belt and are adorned with kokoshniks. The porticos and window frames are made of yellow sandstone, while the bases and stairs are made of red. The area of the church is 150 m², and its height is 27 m. In plan, the church represents a Greek cross.

Initially, all the domes were gilded, but in the 1970s, the small domes were painted blue. The copper roof covering was replaced with roofing felt back in 1929. The iconostasis, made in the baroque style, was gilded in St. Petersburg. The icons painted by T. A. Neff are done in the Western Italian style. In the altar, there is the icon "Resurrection of Christ," gifted to the church by V. V. Vereshchagin.

Originally, the church had six bells brought from Moscow, but in 1917 they were confiscated and melted down for military needs as "enemy property." Currently, the bell tower is located behind the church building.
