Church of the Meeting of the Vladimir Icon of the Mother of God

Фото 1
Next to the Church of Basil the Great, near the southern monastery wall, there is a warm two-story temple dedicated to the Meeting of the Vladimir Icon of the Mother of God. It has two chapels on the lower floor and is made of stone. Its dimensions are 4.5 sazhen in height, 9 sazhen in length, and 3 sazhen 1 arshin in width. The building resembles a ship: the western part is wider, while the eastern part is slightly rounded. The central part rises above the others and is covered with an iron roof with two slopes and one dome. The eastern and western parts also have iron roofs, but each with three slopes. The thickness of the walls reaches 2.5 arshin. The vault is shaped like a hemisphere with reliable iron ties.

In the main church, the altar is separated from the pre-altarpiece area by a stone wall with three spans. The vaults and walls are decorated with paintings. The iconostasis consists of two tiers and is made in a modern style, although some icons are ancient and partially restored. Behind the choirs are icons distinguished by their antiquity and decoration. On the lower floor, there are two chapels: one in honor of the Holy Martyr Charalambos, the other, Saint Mitrophan, the Wonderworker of Voronezh. These chapels are shorter than the upper one, as behind their altars, through the stone wall, there is a storeroom with vaults supporting the stone floor of the upper church's altar. The iconostases in both lower chapels are identical in structure and are aligned in a single line, separated only by a small door. They are made in a new style, with new icons in one tier and canopies above. The altars are separated only by a small stone pillar behind the iconostasis, which, along with the choir in front, serves as a division between the churches and supports the ceiling. The icons of the saints, in honor of whom the chapels are arranged, are placed in special kiots on the protrusions of the temple. The walls are painted, and the ceiling is plastered. This warm church is apparently older than the cathedral, although there is no exact information about the time of its construction. It was brought to its current appearance in 1870.
