Vorozhba began to be settled simultaneously with Sumy. In 1659, families from these areas were relocated to create the settlement of Lower Syrovatka. According to Filaret Gumilevsky in his work "Historical and Statistical Description of the Kharkiv Diocese", the first church in Vorozhba was built around 1650. According to old documents, it was dedicated to Saint Nicholas. In the mid-18th century, the church was rebuilt, remaining wooden. On one of the beams, there was an inscription: "In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, this church of the Protection of the Most Holy Theotokos and Saint Nicholas was created under the great Empress Elizabeth Petrovna." The church was consecrated in 1752.

In the spring of 1770, the construction of a new church began, which was completed and consecrated in the same year. It was dedicated to the Transfiguration of the Lord, the Protection of the Theotokos, and Saint Nicholas. This church with three altars was considered the best wooden church in the Kharkiv Diocese. Among the ancient icons, the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God was especially venerated. The second revered icon depicted the Mother of God with the infant, with the inscription: "This holy image is a copy of the miraculous image of the Most Holy Theotokos Theodorovskaya." This icon was donated by the landowner Mikhail Romanov. In 1755, Ulyana Nikolaevna Nadarzhinskaya donated two small icons of the Savior and the Mother of God in silver vestments.

In 1896, a new stone Transfiguration church was built. Its construction was carried out by the efforts of the parishioners. The church owned estate and arable land. According to data from 1904, the parish had 4,559 men and 4,418 women. The church capital amounted to 6,504 rubles and 31 kopecks. There were two priests, a deacon, and two psalmists on staff. Two church-parish schools and a literacy school operated at the church in the village of Dotsenkove. Several hamlets were assigned to the church.

The church was built according to the project of Kharkiv architect V.Kh. Nemkin. In 1960, it was closed and fell into disrepair. The wall painting, executed by artist Krichensky, was destroyed, and only the icon painting in the altar part remained.

On August 29, Archbishop Mark of Sumy and Akhtyrka held the first Divine Liturgy in the restoring Spaso-Transfiguration Church in the village of Malaya Vorozhba. After the liturgy, a procession took place, and Bishop Mark sprinkled the walls of the church and the gathered with holy water. He thanked everyone who participated in the restoration of the church and expressed hope for the complete restoration of the 115-year-old church. The protodeacon proclaimed longevity to all who worked on the restoration of the church.

Priest Roman Andrukhiv was appointed the rector of the Spaso-Transfiguration Church on August 19, 2003. Services were held in an extension near the bell tower. From August 29, 2007, services resumed in the large church after partial restoration. In March 2014, Protodeacon Roman Andrukhiv was transferred to another parish. Since March 3, 2014, Priest Pavel Sereda has been the rector of the church. The Spaso-Transfiguration Church needs further restoration, and the rector, along with the parishioners, hopes for the help of benefactors and volunteers.
