Church of the Transfiguration of the Savior in Nebylo

Фото 1
Through the efforts of Igumen Mitrophan, the future saint of Voronezh, a stone refectory church was built in honor of the Savior Not Made by Hands, replacing the old wooden one. Stone cells for the igumen were also constructed, and the icon decoration of the monastery was completely updated. The construction of stone churches, initiated in the mid-17th century thanks to royal donations and continued by Igumen Mitrophan with funds he raised, was completed by the end of the century. Construction work resumed only in the 19th century. In 1832, in connection with the canonization of Saint Mitrophan of Voronezh, an altar in his name was arranged above the refectory of the church of the Not Made by Hands.

In 1690, a gate church was built in honor of Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker, which framed the main northern entrance to the monastery from the village. Later, the Nicholas church was connected with the brotherly cells and the refectory church of the Not Made by Hands Savior, creating a cohesive and convenient monastery complex for prayer and work, initially surrounded by a wooden fence and later by a brick one. Construction work resumed here only in the 19th century, and in 1832, in connection with the glorification of Saint Mitrophan of Voronezh, an altar in his name was arranged above the refectory of the church of the Not Made by Hands.

The monastery was closed in 1923. Like other closed monasteries, it was actively adapted for the needs of the new authorities. The complex was nationalized and transferred to the Vladimir Regional Museum, which removed all valuable items. After the formation of the Nebylo district in 1935, various organizations were located in the monastery, and the church of the Savior housed the district executive committee with all its departments.

In 1995, the monastery was granted the status of a monastery, confirmed by the resolution of the Holy Synod on December 27, 1996. In November of the same year, the entire monastery complex was returned to the Vladimir diocese. The church of the Not Made by Hands Savior, where services were held, was filled with ancient and newly painted icons.
