Фото 1
The village of Tsikul is located by the Sentura River, 67 versts from the district town and 100 versts from the provincial capital. The church in Tsikul existed as early as the beginning of the 17th century and is mentioned in the patriarchal revenue books since 1628. According to the records of the patriarchal treasury office, the church in Tsikul was rebuilt twice in the 17th and 18th centuries. In 1644, a blessing was issued for two altars: the Transfiguration of the Savior and St. Nicholas the Wonderworker. In 1715, a decree was issued to consecrate a new Transfiguration church. The reasons for the frequent reconstructions are unknown; they may have been caused by fires that often destroyed wooden churches.

In 1812, the church burned down, and by 1815, a stone temple was built in Tsikul with funds from the landowners, the Taneev brothers. In 1857, the refectory part of the temple was expanded, and since then it has remained unchanged. The temple has three altars: the main one in honor of the Transfiguration of the Lord, in the refectory, in the name of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, consecrated in 1813, and in honor of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God, established and consecrated in 1864. The iconostasis of the Nicholas chapel contains icons from the previous wooden church, but they have been restored, while in the main church and the other chapel, the iconostases and icons date back to 1864.

The church is fully equipped with utensils and vestments. From earlier times, only the altar Gospel from 1657 has been preserved. The parish staff includes a priest, a deacon, and a psalmist. The clergy have their own houses on church land. The land associated with the church includes: 2 dessiatinas of homestead land, 31 dessiatinas of arable land, and 3 dessiatinas of haymaking land; there is a plan and boundary book for all the land. The parish includes the village of Tsikul and the villages of Novaya, Savikova, Aksenova, Maslikha, Filatova, and Kuprieva, where according to clerical records, there are 1,606 men and 1,772 women. Since 1875, a zemstvo public school has been operating in the village, and since 1893, a women's literacy school.
