Church of the Savior Not Made by Hands in Novaya Ladoga

Фото 1
The winter church of the Savior Not Made by Hands, located next to the summer church of Clement and Peter, was built in 1763-1767 on the site of a burned wooden structure. It was topped with an elegant onion-shaped five-domed roof, and the facade was adorned with paintings. The pediment featured a picturesque composition with the Not Made by Hands image. The church was closed in 1935. During the Soviet period, it was depersonalized: the five-domed roof was destroyed, and the frescoes on the facade disappeared, except for one, which is severely faded and almost unnoticeable, above the entrance. Despite this, the remnants of architectural elegance are still felt. Currently, the church is abandoned and deteriorating.
