Church of the Smolensk Icon of the Mother of God in Krasnoe Village

Фото 1
The name "village" implies the presence of a church, and in Krasnoe village, this landmark is the Church of the Smolensk Icon of the Mother of God. It was built in 1808 by Prince Vasily Galitsin. The church had three altars: the central one in honor of the Smolensk Icon of the Mother of God, whose feast day according to the new calendar falls on August 10, the right one in honor of Saint Dmitry of Rostov, and the left one in honor of St. Sergius of Radonezh. The church staff included two priests, one deacon, and two psalmists, supported by the state.

During the Soviet period, the Church of the Smolensk Icon of the Mother of God faced a sad fate: in the 1930s, the bell was thrown down, and the icons were looted. However, faith remained in the people. In 1978, the church building was converted into a restaurant called "Rus." Restoration of the church began in February 1994 with the active participation of all the residents of Krasnoe village. The church serves as the spiritual center of the village, where important events in the lives of the villagers take place, such as baptisms, weddings, and funerals.
