The history of the Holy George Skete is shrouded in mystery. In 1365, Sergius of Radonezh, traveling through the Gorokhovets district, founded a desert on a swamp by the Klyazma River with a church in honor of the Holy Trinity. Over time, the skete became known as the Georgievsky, in honor of the victory at Kulikovo Field, one of the altars was consecrated in honor of St. George the Victorious. In the 18th century, the monastery was closed due to a small number of monks, and the church became a parish church in the village of Egory, which was located near the monastery.

In the 20th century, the village disappeared, after World War II it became uninhabited, and fires in the 1970s destroyed all remaining buildings.

In the late 1980s and early 1990s, archaeologist Viktor Glazov conducted excavations at the Protection Church in Gorokhovets. It was planned to install a wooden church from the village of Egory, which had been dismantled into logs and transported from the abandoned village beyond the Klyazma. The materials were stacked on the territory of the Nikolsky, later Troitsko-Nikolsky, monastery, but the church was never restored.

In 1996, the revival of the monastery began. A few people came to the site of the former skete and built a house with a small church, a bathhouse, and outbuildings. Over time, the number of buildings and the number of "brothers" living in the skete increased. A two-altar wooden church was built with altars dedicated to Sergius of Radonezh and the Holy Trinity, as well as a bishop's house with a small church of St. George the Victorious. Although the skete is officially subordinate to the federal diocese, it is completely self-sufficient, thanks to the generous nature. By 2009, there were 12 people living in the skete, just as when it was founded by Sergius. A livestock yard was built, there are generators for electricity, and the skete is isolated from the outside world by the absence of roads and communications.
