The first church in the village of Bolshoye Kazarinovo was built in 1744 by Colonel Sergey Vasilyevich Chebyshev, the owner of these lands. It was a wooden church with one altar, consecrated in honor of the Venerable Sergius of Radonezh, the miracle worker. However, the church burned down after being struck by lightning. In 1860, a new wooden church was built on its site, also with one altar, consecrated in honor of the same saint. The second church was erected when the village was managed by the descendants of V. F. Chebyshev and S. V. Zybin, who also owned part of Bolshoye Boldino. In the Address Calendar of the Nizhny Novgorod Diocese for 1888, the priest in Bolshoye Kazarinovo was listed as Father A. P. Korinsky, and the deacon, A. Nogotkov. The parish had 307 men and 309 women, and the church land comprised 34 desyatinas. A church house for the clergy was also mentioned. By 1904, the number of parishioners had increased to about a thousand people. At that time, the clergyman was Father Andrey Ivanovich Delitsyn, the psalmist was I. A. Troitsky, and the church elder was A. G. Golubkov.
