The village of Yagrenyevo is located 126 versts from the provincial city and 6 versts from the district center. Since the early 17th century, it belonged to the Pereslavl Nikitsky Monastery, and in 1764 it passed into the jurisdiction of state property. The first mentions of the church in Yagrenyevo date back to the early 17th century. The inventory books of 1628 mention a wooden church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, which housed icons, books, and other worldly structures. This church is also mentioned in documents from 1653 and 1678.

According to the inventory of 1702, the church was wooden with one dome, covered with wooden shingles, and the cross was covered with white iron. Surrounding the church was a porch with two entrances, covered with shingles. A bell tower with a tent on pillars and two small bells was attached to the refectory. The interior decoration of the church and church utensils were not distinguished by wealth or originality.

In 1730, another warm wooden church was built near the church, consecrated in honor of the Protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary. By the end of the 18th century, according to the list of churches from 1799, only one church remained in Yagrenyevo in honor of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

In 1814, a stone temple was built on the site of the wooden church with two altars: a cold one in honor of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary and a warm one in honor of the Protection of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The church was well supplied with utensils, vestments, holy icons, and liturgical books.

Church documents have been preserved in full: copies of metric books since 1797 and confession lists since 1806. According to the staffing schedule, a priest and a psalmist serve in the church. Their salaries are provided by the interest from the parish capital of 5360 rubles, amounting to 214 rubles and 40 kopecks, income from arable and haymaking land of 175 rubles, and from services and requirements of 200 rubles, totaling about 590 rubles per year. The houses of the priest and psalmist are located on church land and are their property.
