In the abandoned village of Kovyrevo, surrounded by forests and fields, an ancient church stands alone, consecrated in honor of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This red brick building was constructed in the second half of the 18th century, and church documents from the diocese mention Prince Volkonsky as its creator.

The architecture of the complex is done in the Baroque style. The central part of the temple is a two-story square with a massive spherical four-pitched dome topped with a single cupola. On the west side, there is a small rectangular refectory with a gabled roof. The ensemble is completed by a four-tiered bell tower. The exterior finish of the building lacks masonry decor: the walls were plastered and painted, and the domes are covered with sheet metal.

Today, the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary is deserted, but it is remarkable that fragments of frescoes and paintings have survived in discernible form. Restoration work is not planned in the near future.
