Near the village of Tagai, on the opposite side of the road leading to Yazykovo, closer to the forest, lies another ancient village, Podlesnoye, formerly known as Podlesnaya Tagaevskaya Sloboda. The history of this place is closely linked to noble families such as Bestuzhevs, Kavrayevs, Rummel, and others. However, the most famous owner remains Pavel Ivanovich Minitsky. According to the Simbirsk researcher Pavel Martynov, Minitsky was an admiral, then served as the governor-general of Arkhangelsk, Olonets, and Vologda provinces, and spent the rest of his life in his estate in Simbirsk. In Podlesnoye, he gathered a magnificent library and a collection of ancient documents and manuscripts. Minitsky paid special attention to preserving the stone Nativity of Christ church, a rare example of Baroque architecture, which, unfortunately, has not survived. The church was built in the center of the sloboda in 1771 by the wealthy landowner Alexei Savich Kandalayev with deviations from Orthodox canons. The altar's throne was not placed on pillars but on four carved gilded sculptures of a man, a lion, an eagle, and a calf, symbolizing the zodiac signs of the four Evangelists. Minitsky, defending the church from the interference of local church authorities, referred to the will of the church's builder A.S. Kandalayev, who wished to see in his estate a house of God as the only comfort and refuge for all Christians.
