The village of Khmelovaya is located in the Varnavinsky district. According to the order of the Department for the Protection of Historical and Cultural Heritage of Nizhny Novgorod and the Nizhny Novgorod Region dated April 24, 2000, No. 5-OD, the rural Theological Church was recognized as an object of historical and cultural heritage. The church dates back to the 19th century. However, according to the Administration of State Protection of Cultural Heritage Sites of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, this order lost its validity on October 20, 2014, as a result of the issuance of order No. 159. As reported by the director of the Varnavinsky Historical and Art Museum, Galina Tsyganova, this cultural heritage site no longer exists.
