In the 20th century, the building lost its original appearance as an Orthodox church, but thanks to recent restoration, it has regained its historical look and purpose.

Krasnoe village, known since the early 15th century, was one of the largest suburbs of medieval Moscow. Its pond, which gave the area its name, was called Krasnoe for its picturesque nature, but it was filled in at the beginning of the 20th century. The first wooden church in honor of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos is mentioned in 1620, and by the end of the century, the Nikolsky chapel appeared. In 1701, a stone church with two altars was built, which was expanded by 1751 with the addition of a chapel in honor of the Beheading of St. John the Baptist. In 1816, the church received a new five-domed structure, and in 1838 it was renovated with funds from G.N. Urusov and E.G. Malyutina.

The Church of the Intercession, consisting of parts from different times, appears as a single building in the Empire style with white details on a yellow background. The bell tower, however, is closer to the Baroque style, as seen in the octagonal tier of the bell ringing on a square base. The rectangular refectory is devoid of decor, unlike the main part of the church, which is adorned with porticos on the north and south. These porticos were closed after the reconstruction of 1902-1904, when the chapels were moved to the main church. The upper part of the square is decorated with triple windows and crowned with five domes. A powerful altar apse completes the building from the east.

After the revolution, in the 1920s-1930s, Metropolitan Sergius (Stragorodsky) served in the Church of the Intercession. In 1934, the church was closed despite protests from the faithful and was slated for demolition, claiming it obstructed pedestrians and was located too close to the road. Ultimately, only the fence and altar apse were destroyed, and the domes and bell tower tier were demolished. The building lost its facade decor, received new window openings, and was divided into floors. A factory for cinema-electromechanical equipment and a toy production facility were established here. By the 1980s, the building was in a state of emergency. Only on Christmas 1997 did the first service take place here, marking the beginning of a long restoration. The interiors, bell tower, facade decor, and altar apse were restored. The churchyard was cleared of industrial buildings. The restoration was completed in 2009, and the church regained its historical appearance.
