The Intercession Church is first mentioned in ancient documents in connection with a request from Grigory Menshikov, the governor of the Yuriev province, to the Holy Synod. He asked for permission to relocate the closed Intercession Church along with its bell tower, utensils, and cells out of the city, to the church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul, built on the site of the former Peter and Paul Monastery, and to convert it into a warm church after the relocation. This petition, dated 1722, was not granted, and the church remained in its original location.

The 1760 inventory of Yuriev indicates that there was a wooden church of the Intercession of the Virgin Mary outside the city. This wooden church existed until 1769, when, through the efforts of parishioners, a stone five-domed church was built in honor of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, with two warm chapels dedicated to Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker and the prophet Elijah. The bell tower and the church fence were also made of stone.

Church documents have been preserved in full, including copies of the metric books from 1795, confession lists from 1829, and an inventory of church property compiled in 1888. The church owns about 1400 square fathoms of estate land in various parts of the city, for which there are documents. The church staff includes a priest, a deacon, and a psalmist. The annual income of the clergy amounts to 964 rubles, of which 208 rubles 56 kopecks are from interest on church capital, 20 rubles from land income, and 735 rubles from sacramental services. The clergy has a church house. The parish consists of 63 households, 236 men, and 272 women.
