The Feast of the Intercession of the Holy Virgin is particularly significant this year for the residents of Vyazniki, as it marks the 200th anniversary of the Intercession Church, located at the old city cemetery on Mochalova Street.

The stone church of the Intercession was built with funds from merchant Vasily Iustinovich Vodovozov. The new brick church was consecrated in 1806 and had three altars: the main one in honor of the Intercession of the Holy Virgin, in the warm refectory, in the name of Simeon the God-Receiver and the Prophetess Anna, as well as in honor of John Chrysostom. However, at the end of 1930, during the persecution of the Church by the Soviet authorities, the temple was closed.

After that, the building was used as a grain storage facility, a utility room for storing various goods, and for receiving glass containers. By the end of the 1980s, it was in a state of disrepair. Only in 1989, during the period of 'perestroika', with the blessing of Archbishop Valentin of Vladimir and Suzdal, a meeting of local residents was held under the leadership of N.D. Nosova and G.S. Zudilov to revive the church's activities. A community of 36 people was formed. Through the efforts of the faithful and the parish priest Father Svyatoslav, with the support of the head of the Vyazniki city administration E.M. Vinogradov, the first restoration works began. The central altar was consecrated again on November 21, 1991, marking the revival of the parish and the beginning of the spiritual life of the community.
