In 1807, the residents of Yelkhovka built a small stone church with a bell tower, designed for 300 people. The altar was consecrated in honor of the Intercession of the Holy Virgin. The church foundation decree was issued by Bishop Serapion of Aleksandrov on August 20, 1802. On the church grounds, there was a wooden watchman's hut, and a wooden fence surrounded it. In 1882 and 1887, the church was rebuilt, and in 1893, it was reconsecrated by Bishop Guriy of Burtasov. According to the decree of the Samara Spiritual Consistory dated December 1, 1901, the clergy of the Intercession Church consisted of two priests, a deacon, and a psalmist, supported by donations, bread collections, and state salaries. The clergy also owned 49 desyatins of land, and in 1898, the village community allocated another 15 desyatins and built housing for the clergy.

In memory of the salvation of Emperor Alexander II, Yelkhov merchant N. P. Maslennikov built a stone chapel, consecrated in honor of Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker. On October 17, 1871, he donated 200 rubles to the clergy, who received 7% for reading the akathist in the chapel on Mondays. Archives contain a case regarding the approval of the project for this chapel in the village of Yelkhovka.

In 1903, a second church was built in Yelkhovka, as the Intercession Church became too small for the large village. Architect A. A. Shcherbachev developed the project to convert a grain warehouse into a church. The church foundation decree was issued by Bishop Guriy four years before the construction was completed. The church was stone with a wooden dome and a stone bell tower, accommodating up to 1000 people. The altar in honor of the Holy Trinity was consecrated on October 2, 1905, by the order of Bishop Konstantin Bulichev. From 1907, metric books were kept in the Trinity Church, but there was no clergy. Services were conducted by one of the priests from the Intercession Church, for whom a wooden house was built. In 1911, a second altar in honor of Saint Nicholas was mentioned in the church.

As of 1908, about 1,000 people lived in the village, mostly peasants. Half of the villagers and the residents of the villages Bulkunovka and Komarovka attended the Intercession Church, while the other half, along with the peasants from the villages Gornostayevka and Nizovka, were parishioners of the Trinity Church. The second parish also included Old Believers, priests of the Austrian consent, Pomors, and Molokans. Since 1898, the first priest of the Intercession Church, who also served in the Trinity Church, was Zinoviy Spiridonovich Florov. From 1907, the second priest was Pavel Stepanovich Nikolaev. The last priest in Yelkhovka before the churches were closed was Yakov Ivanovich Alferov, who served from 1921. In 1930, he was arrested and sent to a concentration camp, but returned three years later. In 1937, he was arrested again, and on February 8, 1938, he was executed.

After the closure, the Intercession Church was used as a grain storage, a jam preparation point, and a bakery. Its reconstruction is still not completed. The Trinity Church was converted into a club, but in 1991 it was returned to the faithful in a deplorable state. Over time, the priests of the church included Alexander Semyonov, Alexey Skachkov, Georgiy Popov, and Hieromonk Zachary Saraev. Since 1998, the rector has been Archpriest Vladimir Alexandrovich Balashov, thanks to whom and the support of the parishioners, the church continues to revive.
