In the 19th century, Poklony was a state-owned village located on one of the highest points of the ridge of hills running through the western part of the district. From the mountain, there was an excellent view of Rostov and Lake Nero. The village was situated by a pond, 10 versts from the city of Rostov, and in 1885 it had 11 households, 46 souls according to the census, and 48 allotments.

The stone five-domed church with a bell tower, dedicated to the Intercession of the Holy Virgin and the Holy Prophet Elijah, was built in 1808 through the efforts of the parishioners. Previously, there was a wooden church on this site, the date of its founding is unknown. Six villages were assigned to the church.
