In 1842, a prayer house was opened in the village of Podgorodnaya Pokrovka. By 1861, when the population of the village numbered 556 people and 91 households, permission was granted to build a wooden church on a stone foundation. The church was consecrated in honor of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary on September 29, 1863.

In 1888, a church parish school, designed for four classes, was built near the temple with funds from local residents.

In 1910, the church was reconstructed, and on October 24, Bishop Dionysius of Chelyabinsk solemnly consecrated it.

From 1930, the church remained inactive. Services were held irregularly, mainly on major holidays, when a priest from the city would come. The last service took place on Easter in 1935, and in August of the same year, the church building was repurposed as a grain storage facility for the local collective farm. In 1948, the building became the property of the forest protection station, and later it was used as workshops for the machine and tractor station. Gates were cut into the altar wall and the bell tower for vehicle access, the wooden floor was replaced with cement, and the wooden cladding was removed up to the cornice. Later, the building came under the control of the local technical school.

In 1991, the church was returned to the believers, and complex restoration work began. The breaches in the walls were filled with ties soaked in creosote, a bell tower was built, and bells were acquired. The walls were clad with vinyl blockhouse, and wooden windows were replaced with plastic ones.
