The tax records of 1628 mention that there was a church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker in the Osovets town, which had previously been a monastery. The tax amounted to 12 altyns with money, 5 altyns for the governor, and 10 kopecks for the entrance. The land registry books of 1637 indicate that there was a church of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos in Osovets with a chapel of St. Sergius of Radonezh, as well as a wooden church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, built by landowners and parishioners. The church had a priest named Fyodor Ivanov, a sexton, and a prosphora-baker.

By 1739, the Intercession church had fallen into disrepair, and the priest received permission to build a new wooden church with the same altars. In 1754, the other cold church in honor of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker also fell into disrepair, and the parishioners built a stone church in his honor at a new location. This temple looked quite modest, with a wooden gable roof. In the late 1830s, a wooden dome was erected over the temple, and the roof was replaced with an iron one.

Due to the cramped conditions of the Nicholas church, construction of a new stone church began in 1855, primarily funded by landowner N. A. Polivanov. The church had five domes and was consecrated in 1868, along with a stone bell tower. The church has three altars: the main one in honor of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, and in the chapels, in honor of St. Sergius of Radonezh and St. Martyr Nadezhda.

Additionally, there is another warm stone church in Osovets. In 1871, the Nicholas church built in 1755 was dismantled, and construction of a warm church began on its site. In 1873, the construction was completed, and the chapel in honor of St. Prince Alexander Nevsky was consecrated, while the main altar in honor of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos was consecrated in 1878.

Both churches are well supplied with utensils, vestments, and icons. The ancient icon of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker in a silver-gilded vestment is particularly venerated by the parishioners. Church documents are kept in perfect order: copies of the metric books since 1809, except for the years 1814-1815 and 1818-1822, and confession lists since 1824. According to the church staff, there are two priests, a deacon, and two psalmists. The clergy members have their own houses on church land. The parish includes the village of Osovets and the villages: Tsepelevо, Pogost, Bryzgunovo, Koptеvo, Fedotovo, Bratanеzh, Zhekhovо, Tarasovo, Kopnino, and Kharitonovo, where the clerical records list 1632 men and 1887 women. In the village of Zhekhovо, there is a church-parish school, and in the village of Kopnino, a zemstvo public school.
