The first mention of Baki dates back to 1617. According to local historian N.G. Tumakov, the first wooden church was built in Baki in 1636, consecrated in honor of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, after which the settlement became known as Baki-Nikolskoye. However, local historian M.A. Baldin claims that the church appeared even before 1628.

According to the "Brief Statistical Information on Parish Churches of the Kostroma Diocese for 1911," the Baki church was erected in 1818 on the site of a burned wooden church, thanks to the efforts of parishioners and benefactors. The church was surrounded by a stone fence with a wooden lattice, and there were stone and wooden benches rented out nearby. Stone towers were located at the corners of the fence.

The church had three altars: in the name of the All-Merciful Savior, in honor of the Intercession of the Holy Virgin, and in the name of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker. The main shrine was the icon of St. Nicholas. Three priests, three psalmists, and a deacon served in the church.

The parish was agricultural and settled, comprising 3,761 men and 3,950 women. Among the parishioners were Old Believers without priests and Baptists, and the parish included 30 settlements.

According to archival data, in 1917, the priests serving at the Baki church were Alexandrovsky, Nikolaevsky, and Volchkov. The last priest was Alexander Pavlovich Smirnov, who was shot in 1937.

The church was closed in the 1930s, the bells were removed and melted down, and the dome and upper part of the bell tower were destroyed. The cemetery, where prosperous residents were buried, was leveled, and part of the gravestones was taken to Vetluga.

The ruins of the church were finally dismantled in the late 1950s and early 1960s. In 1965, a cinema called "Chayka" was built on its site. In 1994, the building of the cinema was transferred to the community of believers, and it was converted into a church, consecrated as the Intercession Church.
