The inspection revealed that the building was constructed in two stages: first, the church and refectory were built, and later the bell tower was added.
In the 19th century, the roof and domes were replaced, and windows for the lucarnes were also installed. When the buttresses appeared is unknown.
The north-west extension has been partially preserved and dates to a later time. Besides the stone church, there was also a wooden church in the village.
The original composition of the building has been maintained, but the roof of the refectory and altar is partially destroyed, and the facades and cornices are weathered in places.
The dimensions of the church building are 36.5 by 20 meters.
The Church of the Intercession of the Virgin is one of the most interesting architectural monuments of the 18th century. Its composition, with a pyramidal silhouette, rounded corners, arched pediments, and numerous architectural elements, gives it a sculptural plasticity characteristic of baroque, although somewhat late for the province. The bell tower, added later, has a more austere silhouette and clear forms, close to classicism. The walls are made of large bricks on mortar and covered with lime plaster. The roof is made of iron, and iron ties are installed in the vaults and arches.
The church building was unused for a long time and was in a neglected state. Currently, the Barysh Diocese of the Simbirsk Metropolis, like in the village of Nikulino, is taking steps to formalize ownership rights to the church and plans its restoration through voluntary donations.
Work has already been carried out to partially replace windows and improve the surroundings.
In 2015, plans are in place to replace windows, the iron roof, domes, and restore the entrance group. However, project documentation and a color passport for the object will be developed first.
