The land registry book of the Murom villages mentions that the church in the village of Bolshoye Zagariino was wooden and built in 1658. Before this time, Zagariino was considered a village belonging to the Lipovitsky parish. The main altar of the church was dedicated to the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos, and in the chapel, there was an altar in honor of Saint George the Great Martyr.

There is no direct evidence of reconstructions of the Intercession Church, but it can be assumed that it was moved at least once, as in the village, besides the current cemetery, traces of two old ones are visible, and in the past, cemeteries were always located near churches. In 1810, with the funds of landowner Izmailov, a stone church was built to replace the wooden one. In 1837, a warm refectory was added to it, and in 1840, a stone bell tower. The church had three altars: the main one, in honor of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos, in the warm refectory, in honor of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul, and Saint George the Victorious. The church was well supplied with utensils, vestments, holy icons, and liturgical books. The ancient icon of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos was especially venerated, known not only to the parishioners but also to the residents of the surrounding areas.

From 1917 to 1920, Father Nikolai Zelenov served in this parish. In 1926, he was transferred to the village of Markovo in the Pokrovsky volost. From 1928 until his first arrest, Father Nikolai served in the village of Sen'go-Ozero in the Petushinsky district of the Orekhovo-Zuyevo region. On November 3, 1929, he was arrested and imprisoned in the Orekhovo-Zuyevo detention house, and on February 6, 1930, he was transferred to the detention house in the city of Pokrov. On February 23, 1930, the Special Meeting of the OGPU Collegium sentenced him to three years in a concentration camp. After serving his sentence, he was appointed to serve in the Pokrov Church of the village of Pustoshei in the Shatursky district of the Moscow region. Later, at the request of Nikolai Zelenov, the Bishop appointed him as priest of the Mother of God Church in the village of Starinino in the Zaraysky district of the Moscow region.

On November 22, 1937, Nikolai Zelenov was arrested by officers of the Zaraysk district department of the NKVD and interrogated the same day. On December 3, 1937, he was shot and buried in an unknown mass grave at the Butovo range near Moscow. On July 30, 2003, the Holy Synod canonized him among the ranks of the New Martyrs of Russia for church-wide veneration.

In the 1930s, in the village of Bolshoye Zagariino in the Vachsky district of the Gorky region, Father Leonid Ivanovich Voskresensky served, who was arrested on November 18, 1937, and shot on December 26 of the same year.

Like all churches in the Vachsky district, the church in honor of the Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos was closed in the late 1930s. Church utensils, icons, and books were lost. Currently, the temple is in a state of ruin.
