In 1818, a prayer house dedicated to the Intercession of the Mother of God was built. By 1840, the building had deteriorated significantly, and fundraising began for the construction of a new church. In 1845, after an inspection of the Astrakhan province by Prince P.P. Gagarin on behalf of the Senate, Emperor Nicholas I ordered state funds to be allocated for the construction of a stone church for 125 parishioners. In 1849, the site for the new church was consecrated.

The stone church in the village of Basas in the Liman district, with one altar consecrated in the name of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, was laid on July 23, 1850. Construction lasted until 1853, and in 1856, church accessories, utensils, and books were acquired.

In 1851, while heading to the Caucasus for military service, Leo Tolstoy stopped in Basas, where he spent the night and attended a service at the Intercession Church, praying for a safe journey.

The church operated until the 1930s, and in the 1940s, its premises were used as a village bakery. In 1991, the parish was reestablished with the blessing of Bishop Filaret of Astrakhan and Yenotayevsk.

The last restoration took place in 2003, during which the central dome with the cross, the roof of the main part of the church, and the base of the dome were restored. In 2010, two memorial plaques were installed on the church: one in honor of Leo Nikolayevich Tolstoy's visit to the village of Basas, and the other in memory of the heroism of the soldiers of the Great Patriotic War.
