The church was built on March 25, 1991, in honor of the two-thousandth anniversary of Christianity with the blessing and efforts of Archbishop Valentin of Suzdal and Vladimir, with the assistance of Priest Father Vladimir Shishkov and funds donated by the servant of God, Tatyana Belcheva.

The Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church decided to resume the commemoration of confessors and martyrs who suffered for the faith of Christ, as established by the Local Council on April 18, 1918. It was decided to hold an annual commemoration throughout Russia on January 25 or the nearest Sunday after this date in memory of all the deceased confessors and martyrs during the years of persecution.

The Archpastoral Council of the Russian Orthodox Church in 1992 ruled to celebrate the Assembly of New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia on January 25 according to the Julian calendar, on the day of the commemoration of the martyr priest Vladimir Bogoyavlensky, if this date coincides with a Sunday or in the nearest week after it.

At the Jubilee Archpastoral Council of the Russian Orthodox Church in 2000, both known and unknown martyrs and confessors of the faith were glorified. The canonization took place on August 20, 2000. It was also decided that the Assembly would include saints by the decision of the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church. As of January 1, 2011, a total of 1,774 individuals have been canonized by name in the Assembly of New Martyrs and Confessors of Russia of the 20th century.
