Church of Nicholas the Wonderworker in Varnavino (Lost)

Фото 1
The single-altar wooden cold church with a tented roof was originally built as a temple of the former Trinity Monastery, founded by Varna of Vetluga in the 16th century. It was erected on the site of an earlier wooden church with the same dedication, located over the burial site of the monastery's founder. After the monastery was closed in 1778, the church became a parish church. It was renovated in 1854. In 1912, due to the threat of bank erosion, the relics of St. Varna of Vetluga were transferred from the Nicholas Church to the Trinity Church. In the 1930s, the church was closed and subsequently destroyed. In 1999, a memorial cross was erected at the site of the Nicholas Church.
