The Nikolskaya Church in Suzdal is first mentioned in the city inventory from 1617. Previously, a women's monastery operated here, which was closed in the early 18th century. In 1719, on the site of the burned wooden church, the existing brick Nikolskaya Church with a bell tower was built. Together with the nearby Christ the Nativity Church, it forms a unified architectural ensemble in the center of Suzdal.

The appearance of the temple reflects the features of Russian architecture of the 18th century. The main square volume is topped with a brick drum and an onion-shaped dome. To the east, a low apse adjoins it, while to the west, there is a three-tiered bell tower with a concave tent and a helmet-shaped top with a cross. The main volume rises above the apse and is crowned with a cornice featuring decorative elements.

The corners of the church are adorned with pilasters, and the tented bell tower dominates the composition. The window openings of the main volume and apse are framed with richly decorated surrounds featuring kokoshniks. The door openings have perspective portals with rectangular projections and semi-columns.

A semicircular apse adjoins the main volume, and on the western side, there is a square bell tower with a small transition. The upper tiers of the bell tower are octagonal. Clay bricks and white stone were used in the construction.

In 2012, restoration work was carried out, including the renewal of the cross, dome, and roof of the drum, as well as the restoration of the temple's facades and the roof of the transition. Window and door fillings were replaced, the pavement and plinth were restored, white stone floors were recreated, and downspouts and staircases made of white stone and limestone were restored on the northern and southern facades.
