Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker in Oktyabrsky

Фото 1
In 1821, a stone church dedicated to St. Nicholas the Wonderworker was built in the village with funds from parishioners, featuring a refectory in honor of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God. In the 1930s, the bell tower was dismantled. The church is located in the center of the village on a square and is designed in the style of late classicism from the first third of the 19th century.

The temple is a monolithic cubic structure with a wide dome covering, surrounded by four pediments that complete the facades. The altar has a semicircular shape, while the refectory is wide and rectangular with a gentle gabled roof. A bell tower was attached to the western side, of which only the lower volume remains, along with a western narthex with a slight projection corresponding to the width of the next tier of the bell tower. The volumes of the refectory and altar are lower than the main volume of the church, emphasizing the dominance of the church in the overall composition of the building.

The building is made of brick on a lime mortar with cross masonry. The dome coverings of the church and altar are made of iron on wooden rafters, while the later covering of the refectory is made of slate. The plinth is low and smooth, with a slight setback. The level of the windows, which are identical in all parts of the building, is emphasized by a horizontal beam with a shelf-like profile. Initially, the facades were not plastered. The windows without frames were located in rectangular niches with quarters and a horizontal lintel. Later, the facades were plastered, the quarters of the window openings were bricked up, and decorative profiles of frames were added. A two-part entablature with a narrow smooth frieze runs along the top of the walls. The cornice is multi-faceted: simple in brick and complex in plaster; in the square and pediments with modillions. The windows on the church facades are arranged in two levels: at the bottom, rectangular, one to the east of the portals, and at the upper level, a wide semicircular Empire window. For symmetry, false windows were made on the western facades of the church. In the refectory, the windows are arranged in three axes, in the altar, in two axes with one false window between them, and on the facades of the narthex, one window each. The entrance to the building is from three sides. The doors are double, with two leaves, in rectangular openings with glazed transoms. Metal grilles with decorative patterns made of rods and strips are installed in the windows. The doors are covered with iron on the outside.
