The parish of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker was founded on September 19, 1993, in the Aviastroitel area of New City, Ulyanovsk. On December 19, 1996, His Eminence Prokl conducted a water blessing service and consecrated the cornerstone. By spring 1997, the wooden church was built up to the level of the ceiling, and the Easter service that year took place in the Nicholas Church without a roof. By autumn, the church was nearly completed. The first Divine Liturgy was held on October 8, 1998.

On November 30, 2002, the wooden church in New City burned down, leaving only the foundation. On December 19, services resumed in the only surviving building, which was used as a church shop, refectory, and prosphora room. From January 4, 2003, Divine Liturgy was again conducted in the Nicholas Church.

In 2004, construction began on a stone church with three altars on the expanded foundation of the previous church. By 2008, the church was built up to the base of the bell tower, and the altar apses were partially erected.

From 2010 to 2011, the construction of the bell tower and the central part of the church was completed. In 2011-2012, domes were installed. On the Annunciation, April 7, 2012, the service took place in the new church.

By the blessing of Bishop Prokl, a project for an educational center in the Zavolzhsky district of Ulyanovsk, in the New City microdistrict, was developed in 2012 at the St. Nicholas Church. In 2013, construction work began. Currently, the building that served as a temporary church has been converted into a Sunday school with two classrooms. The parish of St. Nicholas also cares for the Church of the Prophet Elijah at the airborne troops military unit and the chapel at the city cemetery.
