The gate church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, part of the Goritsky Assumption Monastery, is an interesting example of Moscow Baroque. Its history begins in the late 17th century when construction started. The church operated until 1789, after which services ceased. In 1987-1988, under the guidance of architect I.B. Purishev, it underwent restoration.

The grand gates, above which the Nicholas church is located, adjoin the western part of the gatekeeper's chamber and visually form a single whole with it. The gates are richly decorated with ornamental elements that resonate with the design of the facades of the gatekeeper's chamber. However, they could make a stronger impression if the gate church had been built by the same masters as the gates. The contrast and difference in style between these two structures are noticeable, and in some sense, the church falls short of the gates in architectural design.
