The village was founded in the late 16th century. In 1872, the parishioners built a wooden single-altar Resurrection Church in Alkuzhinskie Borki, which was affiliated with the Church of the Resurrection of the Word in the village of Serpovo. This was likely not the first church in the village, as the parish had already existed for about 200 years. In the 1890s, the wooden church burned down, and with the funds from the parishioners, the construction of a new single-altar warm stone church began, completed in 1903. That same year, the church was consecrated in the name of Nicholas the Wonderworker. A significant portion of the construction costs was covered by local resident I.G. Nikonov. The church had a priest, a deacon, and a psalmist.

The village also had a one-class church parish school and church parish guardianship. In 1911, the village had 320 households and a population of 1,145 men and 1,138 women. There were 26 members in the temperance society.

In 1934, the church suffered from a fire, and in 1935 it was closed, with the building being used as a warehouse. Inside, fragments of frescoes and the framework of the iconostasis have survived.

The church has a traditional "ship" layout, symmetrical along the west-east axis. The main volume, in the form of a two-tiered square, was topped with a five-domed roof over a four-pitched roof. To the north and south of the square are single-tiered narthexes with small domes, and to the east, a semicircular apse. A tall three-tiered tent-shaped bell tower is connected to the church by a single-story refectory. The facades are executed in the style of retrospective, popular in the late 19th century, which reproduced the forms of Moscow's "uzorochye" of the 17th century. It is possible that the church's design was developed by diocesan architect Vladimir Ivanovich Freiman, who at the same time built the stone Church of the Resurrection of the Word in the neighboring village of Serpovo.

Currently, the church is recognized as a monument of regional significance, but this has no impact on its condition.
