Little is known about this chapel in the Russian Orthodox cemetery. The church, dedicated to the venerable Prince Nicholas of Chernigov, known as "Svyatosha," was established by Astrakhan merchant Nikolai Ivanovich Artemyev as a family church-tomb. It was named after the heavenly patron of the merchant, Nikolai Artemyev, who was later buried beneath its vaults in a specially arranged crypt under the altar. The church was built and consecrated in 1889 by Astrakhan Archbishop Evgeny Shereshilov. Over time, it became a place for the funeral rites of those who died from epidemic diseases.

The church was small, with a single altar, made of stone, with a stone bell tower connected to it. It was designed in the ancient Russian style with elements of classicism, as it was adorned with false classical porticos with columns on the north and south sides. A large round drum with six windows was located on the square of the church, and above it was topped with a small round dome with a high lantern, an apple, and a cross. The bell tower was single-tiered, tent-like, crowned in the same manner as the church dome.

In May 1920, Astrakhan Archbishop Palladiy Dobronravov was buried in the crypt under the altar, and after the church was demolished, his remains were moved to the general cemetery.

In 1923, the church was seized by Renovationists, and in 1928, local authorities took it away from them. On April 6 of that year, the Astrakhan Okryspolkom decided to transfer St. Nicholas Church in the Orthodox cemetery to the State Fund Commission under the Astrakhan OFO for dismantling into bricks. In the same year, the Astrakhan Okrsoyviet of Osoviahim claimed the building, proposing to convert it into a gas shelter. However, despite this, the church in honor of Venerable Nicholas of Chernigov was demolished in 1931. It was located in the cemetery right behind the Church of the Holy Spirit. Now, only faint traces of the foundation remain at its site.
