In the center of the village of Yurino, known for its Sheremetev Castle, one of the most beautiful Orthodox structures in the Middle Volga majestically rises among the trees. This church is often called the jewel of the entire region.

The history of its creation is as follows. In Yurino, near the castle, on a hill known as "the top", there stood a wooden church dedicated to Archangel Michael. By the mid-19th century, it could no longer accommodate all the parishioners, and the need for a new temple arose. Funds for this were collected by the community, with a significant portion provided by the Sheremetevs, the owners of the castle and estate. Merchants, workers, and peasants also contributed. The new two-story stone church was built between 1869 and 1889. The old wooden church stood in Yurino until the 1920s when it burned down in a fire and was not restored. The name of the architect of the new Archangel Michael Church is unknown, but the surnames of some builders are known: Smyslovs, Morozovs, Belyakovs. One thing is clear: the church was built according to a unique design, distinguished by its original composition and decor.

The temple is based on the type "octagon on a square". Around the square, on the sides of the cross, there are chapels with powerful arches, and diagonally, small towers are successfully integrated into the overall composition. As a result, the five-domed square is complemented by four additional domes. The nine-domed church looks majestic and solemn. The combination of red and white colors emphasizes the festive nature of the structure. The decorative embellishments harmonize with the overall composition of the church. The mixing of various ornamental styles, characteristic of church architecture of that time, gives the church airiness and harmony. A small refectory connects the temple with the bell tower, which has retained only one of its three tiers. The coverings of the central drum, designed as a tent with round windows, are particularly original. Restoration of the side towers and the bell tower is forthcoming. The walls and vaults of the church were painted by masters from Nizhny Novgorod and Vladimir.

Next to the church was a cemetery where clergymen were buried. In a special crypt, Vasily Petrovich, Olga Dmitrievna, and their son Peter Vasilyevich Sheremetev, the last owners of the estate and castle before the 1917 revolution, were buried.

In the 1930s, the Archangel Michael Church was closed and subjected to desecration. Bells were thrown down, crosses were removed, and interior paintings were plastered over. In February 1941, the Yurino district executive committee reported that the church had been converted into a cinema and club. Movies were shown on the first floor, while the club was located on the second.

In 1989, at the request of the residents of the Yurino district, the church was returned to the believers. Restoration work began, which continues to this day. On November 19, 1991, a large cross was placed on the main dome, and on August 8, 1996, Bishop Ioann of Yoshkar-Ola and Mari El consecrated the Nikolsky chapel of the church. The Yurino jewel has once again found its true purpose.
