Church of Martha of Tambov in Lavrovka

Фото 1
The church in honor of the venerable Martha of Tambov is located in the small village of Lavrovka in the Mordovian district, just six kilometers from Shulgin, on the border with the Lipetsk region. The brick church was built at the initiative of local residents, which helped unite them. Both villagers and Lavrovka natives living in various parts of Russia and abroad participated in the construction. Support was also provided by residents of neighboring Shulgin and leaders of district enterprises. The site for the church was chosen deliberately: as early as 1640, an important road passed through here, next to which an inn known as Razhivin Dvor was built. This place is now Shulgin. Caravans traveled along the road to Tambov, Voronezh, and Yelets, and gradually the area became populated. However, for a long time, there was no church in the village. Three centuries later, on August 11, 2006, the ceremonial laying of the church took place. On December 27, 2015, Metropolitan Theodosius of Tambov and Rasskazovo consecrated the church in Lavrovka in honor of the venerable Martha.
