On the northern embankment of Veliky Ustyug stands the Leontievskaya Church. Previously, there were two wooden churches here: a cold one dedicated to Leontius of Rostov the Miracle Worker, and a warm one in honor of Saints Flora and Lavra. Nearby was a wooden bell tower with six bells. These churches were the center of the village of Leontievskoye, which became part of the settlement in the 17th century.

The stone building of the church was constructed in two stages. The first floor was built in 1738-1741, and the upper part, with a faceted tiered dome, was completed between 1754 and 1770. The earlier part of the temple reflects the architectural forms of the 17th century: window frames with kokoshniks of a keel-shaped form, and the walls are adorned with half-columns. The octagonal tent-like bell tower on a two-tiered base also resembles Ustyug architecture of the past era. The tiles decorating the apse date back to the first half of the 18th century. The upper part of the church is executed in the Baroque style: the window openings are adorned with eyebrow-like sandriks, with figurative cartouches above and below them, and the walls are crowned with semicircular pediments.

The church had two altars: the main one on the lower floor is dedicated to the Holy Martyr Leontius, Bishop of Rostov, and the one on the upper floor is dedicated to the Apostle John the Theologian. In 1930, the church was closed, and workshops were set up within its walls. Since 1960, the church has been protected as a monument of regional architectural significance. The church has now been returned to the faithful and is in the process of restoration.
