The church dedicated to the unmercenaries Cosmas and Damian was built in the village of Syzezh in 1827. According to legend, the mason Kuzma, known for his righteous life and virtue, participated in the construction. His example inspired the locals to consecrate the temple in honor of the saints.

The church building was made of brick, with one large dome, standing on a stone foundation, plastered on the outside, with a roof covered in iron and painted green with oil paint. The length of the building, including the bell tower, exceeded 40 meters, and the width was 17.5 meters. Inside, there were 20 large windows and 3 stoves for heating. The bell tower consisted of two tiers. The iconostasis reached a length of about 7.5 meters and a height of over 6 meters. By the beginning of the 20th century, the church complex included the temple, a school, four houses, and a watchman's lodge.

In 1938, the church was closed, and the last priest, Ilya Alexandrov, was arrested and executed in Samara, at the site of the former NKVD dachas, where the Yuri Gagarin Park is now located. Nearby, a church was built in honor of the Assembly of Samara Saints, dedicated to the memory of 2,500 executed residents. The closed church building was repurposed as a grain storage facility, leading to the cutting of metal ties, which caused the building to settle. In 1991, the church collapsed, the dome fell inward, leaving only the bell tower and part of the walls.

In 2005, the ruins were handed over to the believers, and reconstruction began. For a month, parishioners cleared construction debris, found icons, cleaned them, and handed them over to the priest. Frescoes depicting angels and lists of sins, as well as a fresco of the Savior Not Made by Hands, remained on the walls. The reconstruction is funded by donations, and parishioners are restoring the temple with their own efforts, so the work continues to this day. The first service was held in June 2005.
