The church in Zapolitsy was built of wood in 1770 by the efforts of the parishioners and is dedicated to St. Great Martyr Theodore Tyron. It had a wooden bell tower. In 1845, with the permission of the diocesan authorities, the church was covered with iron, and the bell tower was renovated. In 1852, the walls inside the church were plastered, and the iconostasis was updated. Church documents were kept: copies of the metric books since 1803 and confession lists since 1829. The clergy consisted of a priest and a psalmist.

The church is an elongated building with a main volume, a small refectory, and a low bell tower. It is located on a high hill that steeply descends to the Nerl River. The building is decorated with patterns of brickwork, giving it a distinctive appearance.

The condition of the church is unsatisfactory, with the completion of the main volume lost. Inside, there are visible vents, possibly for ventilation or air heating. The sail vault of the main volume was skillfully reinforced with iron ties during construction and has no cracks. This indicates a high level of construction technique and bold architectural solutions. All parts of the building are connected by wide openings, creating a unified space. Almost no frescoes have survived, but the technique of decorating the facades with frescoes on attached iron sheets is interesting.

For a long time, the church was neglected and subjected to vandalism, with the southern and western entrances left without doors. After the creation of an elite cottage settlement, the church found itself in a well-maintained area, restoration began, and in 2010, the completion and roofing of the bell tower were restored.
