In the distant 17th century, in 1673, by the order of Metropolitan Filaret, Old Believers began to settle in an area engulfed by church heresy. They built a new wooden church in honor of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God.

At the turn of the 17th-18th centuries, a stone church with two altars and a chapel in honor of the Prophet Elijah was erected, where services began as early as 1704. A distinctive feature of the church was its free-standing bell tower. A century and a half later, in the mid-19th century, the building needed major repairs. Under the guidance of Nizhny Novgorod architect P.A. Ovsyannikov, a four-pitched roof was installed. In the year of the 280th anniversary of the Nizhny Novgorod militia's feat, a stone single-domed chapel was built and consecrated in the village. In 1906, a fire occurred in the church, and restoration work was led by provincial architect P.A. Dombrovsky. Three years later, the church acquired a warm narthex and porches in the ancient Russian style.

After 1917, the church fell into disfavor: the bells were removed, the chapel was destroyed, and there were plans to house machine and tractor station workshops in the closed church. Parishioners saved the building from destruction by scattering grain on the narthex to create the appearance of a granary.

During the years of turmoil, the church was closed, and services resumed only in 1944.
