The first mentions of the church in the Archdeacon's parish appear in the patriarchal accounting books, where in the year 1628 it is recorded: "the church of Archdeacon Stephen in the estate of the boyar Prince Fyodor Ivanovich Mstislavsky and Princess Irina in the Yaroslavl volost on the Klyazma riverbank."

Thus, at the beginning of the 17th century, the church already existed, but there is no information about its earlier existence.

From the church foundation charter issued in 1754 by Bishop Platon of Vladimir, it is known that until 1719 there were two wooden churches in the parish: in honor of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God with an altar in the name of Archdeacon Stephen and a warm church in the name of Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker. It is likely that the Kazan church was built later than the one mentioned in 1628.

In 1719, the Kazan church burned down, and services were held in the dilapidated Nicholas church until 1744. In 1742, a new wooden church in the name of Archdeacon Stephen was built. In 1754, both churches were destroyed by lightning.

From 1754 to 1758, a wooden church was rebuilt in honor of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God with an altar in the name of Archdeacon Stephen. This church has survived to this day, but in 1805, the altar was renamed in honor of the holy prophet Elijah.
