The village of Dubrovitsy, located by the Glukhivka River, is 15 versts from the district town and 100 versts from the provincial capital. According to the scribal books of 1628 and 1629, the village belonged to various landowners: clerk I. D. Rudakov, chamberlain K. A. Yakovlev, and chamberlain I. F. Poltev. From a surviving document in the church archive, it is known that in the last century, there was a wooden church in Dubrovitsy dedicated to the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God. The exact date of the reconstruction of this church is unknown, but it occurred no earlier than 1648, as it was only in that year that Tsar Alexei Mikhailovich decreed the celebration of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God throughout Russia.

In 1776 and 1781, with the blessing of His Grace Anthony, Bishop of Pereslavl, a stone church was built in place of the wooden church at the expense of landowner I. I. Rudakov, in honor of the same icon. Around the same time, a chapel in honor of the Dormition of the Mother of God was added to the western side of the church. Both churches still exist in Dubrovitsy. The iconostasis of the Kazan church is made in the style of the late last century with carved images of cherubim, and the Last Supper is depicted on the royal gates. The church is well supplied with utensils, vestments, holy icons, and liturgical books. Several icons in silver vestments, donated by local landowners, have been preserved, but without inscriptions.

The church archive contains two foundation documents for the construction of stone churches from 1776 and 1794. All church documents are in order: there are copies of the metric books from 1801 and confession lists from 1805. The clergy consists of a priest, a deacon, and a psalmist. Their salaries are provided by interest from the church capital of 2137 rubles, amounting to 85 rubles, income from services and requests up to 500 rubles, and net income from land of 150 rubles, totaling about 735 rubles per year.
