On the site of the revived church once stood a cathedral, built between 1857 and 1868 according to the design of the famous St. Petersburg architect G. A. Bosse. It was a stone five-domed temple with three altars, dedicated to the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God, featuring a four-tiered bell tower above the porch. The cathedral was consecrated on September 9, 1868, by Archbishop Apollos Belyaev of Vyatka. The chapels were consecrated in honor of John the Baptist and Saint Paraskeva Friday.

In 1918, the monastery was officially closed. The community of the Kazan-Bogoroditskaya church repeatedly appealed to the Yelabuga city council in 1928-1929 to return the temple, but in 1930, the Cathedral of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God was destroyed.

On October 31, 2012, a significant event took place in the life of the revived monastery: Metropolitan Anastasius of Kazan and Tatarstan solemnly consecrated the newly rebuilt main temple of the monastery, dedicated to the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God.
