On June 12, 1877, a new stone five-domed church was consecrated in honor of the Iver Icon of the Mother of God, replacing the previous wooden church. The church was a classic example of the Russian-Byzantine style, popular at that time in ecclesiastical architecture. Its design was based on a church project from the village of Palovichi in the Skvira district of the Kyiv province, approved in 1871.

The construction of the Iver Cathedral was overseen by architect I.F. Karataev from the Nizhny Novgorod provincial administration. The completed church differed somewhat from the original project: a large crypt was built beneath it, which was later converted into a 'Cave Church,' the height of the building was increased, a refectory was added, and the entrance vestibules were altered. These changes gave the church a more traditional appearance of a Russian Orthodox temple. In 1927, the church was completely dismantled.
