Church of John Chrysostom in Dolgie Village

Фото 1
The stone church dedicated to St. John Chrysostom was laid in Dolgie village on August 29, 1893, thanks to the contributions of parishioners. In July 1903, the holy righteous father John of Kronstadt donated 100 rubles for the construction. The work was completed in 1903, and the church was consecrated on November 10 of the same year. One of the participants in the consecration described the church as "magnificent, spacious, bright, with exquisite paintings and furnishings that, although inexpensive, were quite decent."

Initially, the church was affiliated with the Christ Birth Church of the village of Chastozer'e, whose priest and psalmist lived in Dolgie village. In 1890, parishioners built a house for the psalmist, and in 1903, a comfortable, warm, and spacious six-room house for the priest. Both houses were wooden, located on church land, and belonged to the church.

In 1909, a dedicated clergy staff consisting of a priest and a psalmist was established at the church. In 1913, a fence was erected around the church.

In 1935, the Presidium of the Chelyabinsk Regional Executive Committee decided to remove the bells from the church, which had not been functioning for three years. The bells were transferred to the regional scrap metal office, and a collective farm club was established in the church building. As a result of Soviet management, the church fell into disrepair, leaving only the lower walls.

In 2018, the restoration of the church was initiated by Alexander Vladimirovich Ilytyakov, a deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation of the VII convocation. Soon, the dilapidated building, which had lost the features of an Orthodox church, regained a splendid appearance.

On February 12, the day of remembrance of the three great universal teachers and saints Basil the Great, Gregory the Theologian, and John Chrysostom, the village of Dolgie was visited by Metropolitan Joseph of Kurgan and Belozersk. He performed the rite of great consecration of the church and conducted the first Divine Liturgy in the newly consecrated church.
