Фото 1
One of the churches in Rostov-on-Don that was destroyed during the Soviet era was the Church of John the Baptist. It was built in 1872-1873 and later reconstructed by the famous Rostov architect Grigory Nikolaevich Vasilyev. The history of this church is full of amazing and tragic events. In 1905, it found itself at the center of revolutionary battles, and in 1913, it burned down. After the fire, a temporary church was built. With the arrival of Soviet power, the temporary church, along with the yet-to-be-restored church and other church buildings, were destroyed, and a so-called Palace of Labor was erected in their place.
