The church in honor of the righteous John of Kronstadt was founded in 1996 and initially functioned as a chapel in the building of the Orthodox Youth Center "Ark." By the blessing of Archbishop Alexander of Kostroma and Galich, the construction of a new church began next to this center. In 2001, the first stone of the church, dedicated to the righteous John of Kronstadt and Saint Ambrose of Milan, was laid. Within a year, the walls of the lower church were erected, and a foundation for the bell tower was prepared. In 2002, the church under construction was visited by Patriarch Alexy II of Moscow and all Rus, who gifted the church an icon of Saint Ambrose of Milan and consecrated the bells. From 2002 to 2005, the walls of the church and bell tower were built, and the exterior finishing was completed. On December 25, 2005, a minor consecration of the upper church in honor of the righteous John of Kronstadt took place, and Archbishop Alexander conducted the first Liturgy with the city clergy. In winter and spring of 2006, despite difficult conditions, services and interior finishing continued. In 2007, the construction of the iconostasis and the creation of icons began. In 2008, a balcony for the choir was built, the iconostasis was installed in the upper church, and the altar finishing began. Currently, work is underway on the interior finishing of the lower church in honor of Saint Ambrose of Milan and the improvement of the area around the church.
