The church in honor of the holy Apostle and Evangelist John the Theologian in the village of Ognev Maydan was first built in 1783 with funds from parishioners. In the early 1880s, the building burned down, and a new one had to be constructed. The new church was erected thanks to the donations of landowner Anastasia Dionisievna Zhadovskaya. On March 11, 1885, the stone church with a tiered bell tower reopened its doors to parishioners. The interior of the temple was distinguished by a magnificent iconostasis and frescoes, which gave it special beauty and solemnity. The parish included residents of the village of Ognev Maydan, the villages of Ivanovka, Agrofeniino, and Vyselka. There was a cemetery by the church, but the gravestones have not survived. Currently, there is a burial site of landowner Zhadovskaya located by the northern fence. During the Soviet era, the church, like many others, was repurposed: it housed a storage facility for the local collective farm named after Chkalov for storing potatoes and grain. Thanks to the efforts of the villagers, part of the church utensils were preserved.

In 1993, the restoration of the church began, initiated by the village elder Evgeny Vasilyevich Ionov. Funds for the restoration came from parishioners, and financial support was also provided by the Vorotynsk district administration, while the local agricultural cooperative named after Chkalov supplied glass. Some icons and a unique altar canopy were returned. Since 1995, services have resumed in the temple, and restoration work continues: the fence has been restored, and we hope that soon the bells will ring again from the revived bell tower.
