The city of Saki is known as a balneological resort, where many came hoping for healing through local mud. In 1861, a small stone church was built for spiritual support at the sanatorium. The idea of creating the temple belonged to Saint Innocent Borisov, Bishop of Kherson and Taurida. In 1853, the Kherson Spiritual Consistory proposed a project for a church by the Saki salt lake, developed by the diocesan architect, but it was rejected. Instead, the Synod proposed its own project costing 8,000 rubles in silver, which was approved on December 13, 1856. However, due to the war, plans changed, and in 1857 Archbishop Innocent reported that construction had stopped, as the hospital for which the church was planned had been destroyed. After his death in 1857, in 1861, a small church in the name of the holy prophet Elijah was built with the funds of merchant Pyotr Tretyakov. It served Saki and seven surrounding villages with 1,679 parishioners. The first priest was Roman Sulima, and the deacon was Pavel Mikhailovsky. The church had no bell tower, and the bells hung low, making them hard to hear. In 1891, it was decided to build a new three-tiered bell tower designed by architect Ambarzum Karapetov. In 1902, construction of a new church building, corresponding to the bell tower, began. The project was developed by Khrisanth Vasilyev, who harmoniously combined the bell tower with the new temple. On October 2, 1903, the church was consecrated. However, in 1929, by decision of the authorities, the church was closed and converted into a club. In 1930, parishioners attempted to protect the temple, but it was still turned into a club. In 1941, during the German occupation, the church reopened and remained the only functioning temple in the area. In 1952, church attendance was significant, especially during holidays. In 1947, the temple was visited by Saint Luke of Crimea. Despite the authorities' attempts, services continued in the temple. From 1960 to 1985, the rector was Sergey Skorobatsky, then Valery Tsurkan until 2014, and since 2014, the rector has been Ioann Pristinsky. Since 1991, the restoration of the temple began, during which the domes, wall paintings, iconostasis were restored, and the bell 'Blagovest' was installed. For the convenience of the sick, access to the temple was provided.
