The Church of Elijah the Prophet in its current form was built in 1745. Information about the previous building of the church has not survived. The existing church was erected "by the efforts of the parishioners," as indicated in the clerical records, but undoubtedly with significant support from the boyars Saltykovs. This is suggested by the size of the church and the iconostasis, as well as the wealth of preserved decorations. The likelihood of this assumption is strengthened by the fact that the Kubenskoe church holds many valuable gifts from the Saltykovs, testifying to their generosity and care for the church.

The church is made of stone, one-story, with one altar and three entrances from the west, north, and south sides. Each entrance has two doors: glass and iron, grating. To the east, there is a semicircular altar, and to the west, an open entrance porch without doors, on the cornice of which is depicted the Holy Trinity. The roof of the church is four-pitched, covered with wooden shingles until 1803, and then replaced with iron at the expense of peasant Dmitry Kulagin. On the roof, there are five round lanterns with large domes covered with white iron. These works were also carried out in 1803 at Kulagin's expense. The crosses on the domes are wooden, covered with sheet iron and made in their current form in 1889. The length of the church from the entrance doors to the altar is 13 fathoms, and the width is 6 fathoms. The windows are arranged in two tiers: three windows on each side at the bottom, two at the top, four windows on the back wall, three windows in the altar, and four narrow elongated windows in the lantern. The walls of the church, except for the crenellated cornice, have no decorations. On the western wall, there is a stone plaque with an inscription about the time of the church's construction: "This church was built and consecrated in the name of the Holy Glorious Prophet of God Elijah, in the year of our Lord 1745, on the 19th day of July." On the southern wall, there are two similar plaques indicating the burial of two wealthy peasants from the Vanen family. The inscriptions are made in cursive and are well preserved. In 1897, the church was painted light yellow, the roofs green, and the domes light blue.

On May 1, 2019, the rector of the Holy Trinity Church, Father Nikolai Popugaev, held the first service in the Church of Elijah the Prophet. This was the first worship service in the church in the last 90 years. Believing residents of the village of Kubenskoe walked in a procession from the Trinity Church to the Church of Elijah the Prophet. Father Nikolai congratulated everyone on Easter, thanked all who participated in preparing the altar part of the church for the first service, and especially noted the efforts of parishioner Andrei Labutin, presenting him with a letter of gratitude and an icon of the Holy Trinity. The villagers still have much work to do to restore the shrine.
