According to the land registry book of 1676, the village of Folinskoye, also known as Filinskoye, was part of the parish of Kubovsky Pogost and had two peasant households. Kubovsky Pogost existed as early as the beginning of the 17th century. The land registry books from 1629-1639 mention a dilapidated wooden church in honor of the prophet Elijah, built with the funds of a priest. A new church in honor of Saint Prophet Elijah with an altar in honor of Saint Sergius of Radonezh was also constructed by the parishioners. The church had a priest, Fyodor, a deacon, a sexton, and a prosphora baker.

Descriptions of the parishes from 1896 indicate that a church-parish school with 53 students operated in Kubovsky Pogost. In the village of Chernovskoye, there was a zemstvo school with 17 students. From 1896 to 1918, the priest Nikolai Lavrov served in the Kubovsky parish, while the psalmists were Fyodor Pakatov, Alexander Chizhov, and Khersonsky; the deacons were Alexander Kapatsinsky and Lev Kastorsky.

In the 1930s, the priest of the Trinity Church, Pavel Alexandrovich Lebedev, lived in the village of Kubovo in the Vachsky District of the Nizhny Novgorod Region. He was arrested on April 12, 1932, sentenced to three years in a corrective labor camp on July 28, 1932, and died in custody on August 19, 1933.

The wooden church in honor of the Life-Giving Trinity was dismantled. During the Soviet era, the villages of Chernovskoe, Shishkino, Yusupovo, and Filinskoye were transferred to the Vachsky District.

Today, the village of Filinskoye is the administrative center of the municipal formation 'Filinsky Rural Settlement.' The construction of a new stone church in honor of the saint prophet Elijah with an altar dedicated to Saint Sergius of Radonezh was greatly assisted by OAO 'Nizhny Novgorod Machine-Building Plant.'

From 2000 to 2010, a stone church was built, and the first service took place in 2010. On December 13, 2013, Bishop Varnafa of Vyksa and Pavlovo performed the great consecration of the church in honor of the Holy Prophet Elijah. On October 17, 2014, the side altar in honor of Saint Sergius of Radonezh was consecrated.
